Before they got to the app demos, and the heart of the presentation covering new features of the iPhone OS 3.0, Apple hit us with some typically impressive numbers and stats.
Like
"We’ve sold 17m altogether, you can see how people have accepted the 3G. But the touch also runs the same OS, and if you look at the time period, we’ve sold over 30m units of iPhones and iPod touch."
I often forget how big the impact of the iPod Touch is “ especially in terms of the overall reach of the iPhone OS now.
And
They told us that since the first iPhone SDK was introduced “ just a year ago “ there have been 800,000 downloads of it, and 50,000 companies / developers in the developer program. A staggering 60% of those had not developed for any Apple platform prior to the iPhone! This is one of the iPhone OS ‘ very biggest strengths “ the way the developer community has embraced it.
25,000 apps “ we already knew this one, but still. Apple also claims that 96% of apps are approved (cough “ that could explain why there is much dross around) and 98% of those apps get approved in 7 days or less (both numbers are based on February 09). So those 2% who do not get rapid approvals sure are quite vocal.
Oh, and one more
800 million downloads from the App Store “ in 8 months.
Still seems amazing to me that the first iPhone was launched less than two years ago
