With the iPhone at the top of every mac fanboy’s mind today, I thought I would take the time to discuss what I think the iPhone needs to stay competitive. Not including copy/paste, MMS, or video, there are major fixes that Apple needs to address if it wants to remain head honcho of the smartphone world. Apple needs to innovate the iPhone again. They need to overdue all of their competitor’s dreams to remain top dog.
The ability to run third-party apps in the background was a huge feature that was shown with the Palm Pre and Apple needs to include this in their next version of the iPhone. Some more ideas that aren’t to farfetched are iChat, Keyboard, and possibly a more impressive camera.
iChat is something that would be a nice feature to use when just talking to someone isn’t enough. This innovation in live video streaming isn’t to far off. We have seen apps, such as Qik, that mimic this live video streaming technology already.
A keyboard is something that I have dreamed of in the next iPhone for so long. I don’t think it would be to crazy to ask Apple to create some sort of slide out QWERTY keyboard in their next version of the “Jesus Phone”. I wouldn’t mind having my phone be an extra .2 inches thicker so I could send messages 30 times faster.
Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter are all becoming parts of our everyday lives. There’s not a better way to express what you’re doing or where you are than with pictures. The inclusion of a better camera in the iPhone would be amazing. The picture quality of the current iPhone is decent, but nothing to brag about, especially when Samsung is realsing this phone.
These are just some of the things that I really think Apple needs to think of when they announce their new iPhone, hopefully later this year. Now what happened to that 3.0 software update?
