Even while doing battle with Apple (since last July) Psystar is insistent on continuing forward. They have just announced a new slimline tower capable of running Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5, starting at $600.
For $599.99 customers can purchase Open(3), a slimline tower with a 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR2 memory, NVIDIA’s GeForce 8400 GS 256MB graphics card, and a half Terabyte hard drive. FireWire, 802.11n wireless, and USB Bluetooth adapter are not standard, and cost $79, $99, and $40 respectively.
Other upgrade options include, a 2.53 GHz Core2Quad ($180), 4GB of memory ($50), 1TB hard drive ($100), additional hard drives ($99 to $199), and a Blu-ray burner. You can also purchase higher performance graphics (GeForce 9500GT 512MB) for $119.
I think it’s only a matter of time before Psystar has to stop selling Mac clones. In the mean time while they have Apple tied up red tape, it looks like they are going to make some sort of money off of this. Although it is fishy Psystar seeminlgy came out of nowhere, I don’t think Apple’s claim that some bigger entity being behind Psystar holds much water. I’ve been wrong before…
