iPhone OS 3.0 Apps Compatibility – Excellent

One of the things I was most curious about with iPhone OS 3.0 is how good (or bad) apps compatibility would be when it launches. Having taken the plunge and installed the beta, I was very keen to see how it is faring in this area at this early beta stage.
The short answer is tremendously well. I ‘ve been pleasantly surprised to see that the vast majority of my apps are “ so far “ running without a hitch. So I thought I ‘d share my findings and list of which apps run fine, and which have some issues (I have only found two apps that completely failed to run). Read on for details
Obviously, this is not a ‘comprehensive ‘ sort of list of apps. Given that there are now over 25,000 in the App Store, I ‘m not holding my breath for that kind of list either.
Going through it though, I think this list covers some popular and useful apps, so hopefully it may be a useful list for some of you.
Also, I haven ‘t done anything like thoroughly test each application. I ‘ve launched them and been through some of the main actions in each “ e.g syncing feeds and reading feed items in RSS apps, playing a level or two in games, and similar “ so your mileage may vary of course.
Below is the list of apps. If there is nothing noted next to an app ‘s name, it ran without any issues for me. If I did see any problems, a brief note of them is next to the app ‘s name

That ‘s it for now. Let us know in the comments about your experiences with 3.0 and apps compatibility

Pingback: Downgraded from 3.0 to 2.2.1 – Some Quick Thoughts | Just Another iPhone Blog
Good to know there aren't too many compatibility issues. Will App Store stop working for iPhones loaded with OS 2.0?
fiuza – I'm guessing that's a typo and you're asking whether App Store will stop working with 3.0 loaded. The answer is no – App Store works just fine …
Hi Patrick, no I really mean OS 2.0.
I'll explain better. I'm not planing to update my iPhone to OS 3.0 soon, since I hate to have to install everything again. (Mine is Jailbroken)
So, after the official release of OS 3.0, and after that period, maybe in 2010, will they block iPhones loaded with OS 2.0 into the App Store to force them to upgrade to OS 3.0?
fiuza – sorry, now I follow your question. Answer is I don't know, but I doubt it – the App Store launched on the 2.0 firmware and I would hope / expect it should continue to work with that firmware and above …
IMOB and games from the same dev are not completely usable… still run but not able to do anything other than that.
xrisdaniels – thanks for the update. I have to admit, I gave up on iMob a while back – too many stability / performance issues, and way too much cheating …
I update my itouch to the 3.0 firmware but whichever app I install, it just crashes and doest load. I have trried restoring many times to see if that helped.. Any ideas?
itouch123 – I didn't even realize there were 3.0 versions for the Touch already available. Perhaps try applying a later / more current version?
