Site Stuff: Trying A New Comments System

I ‘m trying out a new comments system for JAiB “ the popular Disqus service.  The I hope Disqus will improve our commenting here are:

  • It lets you create a login one time (if you don ‘t already have one) for Disqus and then use it anywhere on the web that uses Disqus, which is a large number of sites by now and one that is increasing all the time.  So the time you take to register doesn ‘t just get you into our community for this site, but into the global Disqus community.
  • It has ‘hooks ‘ into other services.  I ‘ve currently got it pulling in comments relating to JAiB posts that are made on Friendfeed, for example.  
  • It should / will allow a broader scope of login options.  Disqus is supposed to allow our readers to login using their Facebook login, or their Google or Yahoo account credentials “ so you don ‘t need to create new IDs just to comment here.  Sadly, these are not working as yet “ but I ‘ve got support queries in at Disqus for these issues and hope to get them working soon.

If you have a chance, please try out the new comments “ and please let us know what you think of it.  I ‘d also love to hear what you think about potentially being able to use your Facebook / Google / Yahoo IDs to login.
