InstallerApp is a native Mac OS X application (soon ” for Windows too) that allows you easily download applications from Installer and Cydia directly onto your computer, and install them to the iPhone connected with USB cable. Download for Mac OS X.
Hmmm “ first we had paid-for apps added to Cydia, now we have Installer crossing over onto the Mac (and soon Windows too) to offer an iTunes alternative for syncing jailbreak apps across to the iPhone via desktop / USB connection.
I ‘m not sure how interesting this one will be to jailbreakers, as I ‘ve always found that the less often I have to do any sort of wired / USB sync, the better.
It also strikes me as odd, or maybe just a little desperate, timing for this. Cydia seems to be the current overwhelming choice of both jailbreak users and those who create and house the application ‘repositories ‘ for jailbreak apps. So Ripdev “ the makers of Installer “ are maybe trying to ride the coat-tails of Cydia just a bit here
Support for Both Installing Solutions
Now you don ‘t have to make a choice between alternative installers, you can get the best of both worlds, Installer and Cydia ” InstallerApp supports both!
The only major plus I can see for this app is that it provides a way to sync both App Store and jailbreak apps to your iPhone simultaneously (when connected to your Mac via USB).
For now InstallerApp only supports first gen and 3G iPhones, no iPod Touch support yet. You also need a Mac with an Intel processor running OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher to run it.
The ‘Full ‘ version of this new app costs $7, and lets you sync up to three iPhones, with updates and email support for a year promised as well.
I ‘m not currently jailbroken, but even if I was I just can ‘t think of a time when I wished for an ability to get my jailbreak apps via USB sync, as opposed to the easy wireless install methods available right on the phone. And I can ‘t picture wanting to pay $7 for the privilege either.
