Fiuza seems to be right on the money. Restoring with an unofficially loaded iPhone is a pain in the keister, so having a backup solution like this would be pretty nifty. Kudos to RipDev, I suppose. Now… has anyone tried the most recent version?

On OS 1.0, I had to restore my iPhone to factory settings a few times, and I had to download and install about 30 jailbroken applications all over again. I would use InstallerApp for backups.

OK – just saw a good Engadget post that clarifies this issue. It *does* jailbreak your iPhone in order to be able to install JB apps, just as I thought. Ripdev should make that clearer on their page too.

Brandon – now I'm seeing some places (e.g. Gizmodo) seeming to say this will allow you to install jailbreak apps even if you are not jailbroken. So it is doing the jailbreak as part of its process? If you get it working would be interested to hear what you learn on that …
