JavaScript Runs 3-10X Faster on iPhone 3.0

Posted on 27 Mar 2009 by Alex Jordan

The AppleBlog is reporting that JavaScript has been tested and is running at phenomenal speeds on the developer build of iPhone OS 3.0.

It is thought the speed increases comes from Apple’s inclusion of the Nitro (formerly know as Squirrelfish) JavaScript engine.

The Webkit team has made steady progress over the past 12 months optimizing the engine and is now included in the recent release of the Safari 4 beta. That is why Safari 4 feels so snappy.

This sounds about right, and is the next logical step for mobile Safari. Especially if Apple is including it in currently shipping products.

  1. That is great! I’m missing the flash support, still.
