Quick Look: Blogpress for iPhone

Posted on 28 Mar 2009 by Thomas

Ah, mobile blogging. The age old art of publishing posts from a mobile device. I’m not quite sure when the last update to Blogpress was released but it has certainly become a real mobile blogging beast!

Blogpress supports landscape writing flawlessly, and the keyboard responds very quickly while within the app. Multiple images can be inserted in a post and you can even adjust the layout, although I ‘d really love the ability to rotate an image for landscape screenshots.

The app also supports multiple blogs, and posting the same post to multiple blogs. Switching or adding a new blog is as simple as pressing a button. In fact, everything is very nicely simplified, and it reminds me of that precise simplicity that Patrick always talks about in his ideal apps. He wants a lot of power, but he doesn ‘t want so much power that he ‘s probably paying $5 more than he should for features he doesn ‘t use (that was a mouthful). Blogpress, in its $3.00 incarnation, is the right amount of power at the perfect price.

There is always room for improvement, though.  The app is still a bit handicapped in terms of linking, UI stability (I get white screens when I go to edit tags), and I could see some usability changes in the future that would really help the UI (see above screenshot “ JAMM ‘s name overlaps the check mark). However, I ‘m truly impressed with what Blogpress has managed to accomplish and it ‘s also really bloody fast to boot.

With iPhone 3.0 on the way, copying and pasting a link on a non-jailbroken iPhone will become a reality and I think blogging with Blogpress will become even more of a treat.
I’m extremely happy with my $3 purchase, and if you ‘re looking to do some mobile blogging then I think Blogpress is absolutely the way to go.
