It ‘s tough to beat this time of year if you ‘re a sports fan. March Madness getting down to its final stages, NBA playoff races and spots getting worked out, the start of the Formula 1 season, Premier League and other Euro futbol leagues reaching their climaxes, and the Masters coming up soon.
Oh, and Spring Training and the start of the Major League Baseball season of course. To help us get in the mood for MLB ‘s kick-off, the new MLB.com At Bat 2009 for iPhone has just launched.
The app offers to ‘put LIVE baseball at your fingertips ‘. Here ‘s a bit more of its App Store description:
Featuring exclusive pitch type, location and speed data from MLB.com Gameday, plus real-time box scores, play-by-play and video highlights, it’s the fastest, most detailed way to follow games on your iPhone or iPod touch.
And new for 2009, At Bat includes MLB.com Gameday Audio. You can listen to every regular season and Postseason game LIVE, with your choice of the home or visiting team’s announcers.
This year ‘s edition of MLB At Bat is more expensive than last year ‘s “ weighing in at $9.99 as compared to the 2008 version ‘s $4.99 price tag “ but last year ‘s came out a couple months after the start of the season, due to the launch date of the App Store.
So the price is relatively high, but for many big baseball fans this will be a must-have anyway I imagine. I just grabbed it more or less as soon as I saw it was available. I ‘ll post some thoughts on it once the season starts and I can see all its features. I definitely like the sound (no pun intended) of live audio (and choice of announcers) for all games.
Here ‘s a couple more quick screencaps “ of a video from the ‘Extras ‘ section ..
And the main scores screen
MLB.com At Bat 2009 looks good so far “ I ‘m looking forward to seeing it in its full stride when the season starts next week. For now, I ‘ll get back to the UNC-Oklahoma Elite 8 matchup.
You can find MLB At Bat 2009 in the App Store now, for $9.99.
