SplashPhoto Mobile Albums for iPhone = My New Best Friend

SplashPhoto Desktop

One of the things I do most often with my iPhone “ every day and usually several times per day “ is transfer pictures from my iPhone to my desktop or Flickr (online photo sharing service).  I transfer a lot of photos and screencaps from my iPhone every day, often in fairly big bunches (of 6-10 pics at a time).

So any app that streamlines the ‘process ‘ of doing this is very interesting to me.  I wasn ‘t planning to post yet on SplashPhoto Mobile Albums, as I ‘ve only had it installed for less than 24 hours.  But it has already become my new best friend on the iPhone!  And unless it does some sort of Jekyll and Hyde transformation on me in coming days, it ‘s going to remain so for a long time.

If you move a lot of pics off your iPhone regularly, you know that the process for doing so is a pain in the arse.  My first good friend in making this easier was Multi-Photo Email, which let me send multiple photos attached to one email, rather than having to send an individual email for every image I wanted to send.  Hurrah “ loved this app when it first came out.

In the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0, the ability to send multiple photos in a single email is built into the Photos app “ and it actually does it in an easier and slicker way than Multi-Photo Email “ so goodbye to the usefulness of that application.  This is still not an optimal method for moving a lot of photos around quickly “ not least because email is not a great medium for sending / sharing large amounts of data, so the more attachments the more likely you are to have issues.

FlickIt had become my go-to app for moving photos around over recent weeks.  It helped me upload photos quickly and easily to my Flickr account “ and was a much better tool for me than Multi-Photo Email for dealing with transferring pics around.

SplashPhoto Mobile Albums offers me much more now though.  Here ‘s what is great about this app:

  • It pairs with a (free) desktop app called SplashPhoto Desktop and syncs to it wirelessly after just a few moments of easy and painless setup
  • Sync is super-quick and involves one tap on its Sync button
  • It lets you organize pictures into albums on the iPhone “ you can create new albums and add pics from your Camera Roll and Photo Library to them.  You don ‘t just have to accept the albums created on the desktop “ as you do with the built-in Photos app.
  • You can also upload to Flickr and Picasa directly from within the app
  • The free desktop app lets you do some basic editing of images “ renaming them, cropping, adjusting brightness and contrast etc.
  • If you ‘re a Mac user, it frees you from having any need to deal with iPhoto “ which, in my humble opinion, is one of the most useless POS applications ever turned out by anyone, let alone Apple

I ‘ll do a proper review of SplashPhoto sometime soon, but I just had to do this quick post today “ because I am so impressed with this app.  It has some flaws, for sure – it ‘s not perfect, but few things are in life.  It is good enough to be my new best pal on the iPhone though.

You can find SplashPhoto Mobile Albums in the App Store now, for $4.99.
