After my latest restore of my iPhone (to OS 3.0 Beta 2), I decided to clear out all the ‘stale ‘ updates that were showing on the App Store Updates page. Even though I was pretty certain many were out of date and had been applied before, I thought I ‘d give this a go as I ‘d heard a few people saying they thought that all the recent weirdness and inaccuracy on updates might have been fixed.
Note: For those who weren ‘t aware of it, App Store updates had gone badly astray for a time “ continually showing updates you ‘d already applied, out-of-date updates, and constantly reporting different numbers of updates needed. See this post for lots more detail on that.
I ‘m very happy to say that after my clearout, updates are working well for me again. Through several reboots and lots of App Store usage, the number of updates available is staying consistent and I ‘m only seeing ‘valid ‘ updates as far as I can tell. Hurrah!
This issue had been bothering me for ages “ and had almost driven me to completely ignore the Updates tab. If it is really fixed and stays that way, I ‘m a very happy camper.
Wouldn ‘t it be great if Apple would take a leaf out of Installer ‘s book and tell us on the App Store ‘s Featured page that a fix had been applied for the updates behavior and confirm that things should be good? Or if they would have posted a message weeks ago saying they were aware of the issue (via the huge number of Apple support discussion threads on the subject) and were working on an update. I guess this would be too close to an acknowledgement that communication “ even when it is not in the form of Steve or Scott or other Apple execs bringing tablets down from the mountain to show us “ is not bad or evil. 🙂
Anyway, I ‘m well happy to see updates looking right again “ and hoping / expecting this is not just a 3.0 thing. What are you all seeing? Updates back to normal for you?
