QuickOffice announced this week that they ‘ll be bringing out QuickOffice for iPhone this month “ the ‘first complete Office suite to provide native Microsoft Word and Excel editing for the iPhone ‘.

It ‘s been a long time coming, but it looks like it won ‘t be much longer at all before we see some real Office file editing abilities for the iPhone.  QuickOffice already offers Quicksheet, for Excel spreadsheet editing on the iPhone “ and I ‘m sure the combined Word plus Excel ‘suite ‘ product will generate a lot of interest.

Eric Zeman at Information Week was definitely impressed:

Today at the CTIA wireless trade show, I was able to see a demonstration of the new QuickOffice software that will be available for the iPhone later this month. Instant verdict: epic win for enterprise productivity!

Zeman says the version of Excel he saw includes many of the full version ‘s features “ and highlighted a few of the app ‘s abilities that really caught his attention:

What I liked best is that QuickOffice will automatically sync with iPhone users’ MobileMe accounts and store documents on users’ iDisk. The iPhone can also be tethered to a PC via Wi-Fi,, which lets users search for documents as if the iPhone were a mounted hard drive.

There was more potential good news for those who need to work with MS Office files on the go this week “ in the form of some positive-sounding comments from Microsoft on the chances of seeing a version of Office for the iPhone ‘soon ‘.

Speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco on Wednesday, Microsoft Business Division president Stephen Elop dropped hints to suggest the set of productivity applications was bound to turn up on the Apple handheld device sometime soon.

Who knows “ maybe we ‘ll be spoiled for choice in the Office apps area in a few months time.

QuickOffice is set to come out in ‘early ‘ April at a hefty price of $19.99 “ though you ‘ll also be able to buy Quicksheet (for Excel / spreadsheets) for $12.99 and Quickword (Word docs editor) for $12.99.
