The New York Times has an interesting article up, that offers another look at a few small, independent iPhone apps developers who have struck it rich via the App Store and the ‘iPhone Gold Rush ‘. 

They ‘ve got some background on, and quotes from, the developers of Trism (the guy featured in Apple ‘s recent iPhone OS 3.0 Preview event as an example of how ‘the little guy ‘ can triumph in the App Store), iShoot (the $800,000 gorilla of a success story), and iSteam (created by a trio of young London-based devs).

One of my favorite iPhone devs, Erica Sadun, is quoted in the article, reminding us that these huge success stories are very much the rare exception, not the rule in the App Store:

And for every iShoot, which earned Mr. Nicholas $800,000 in five months, ‘there are hundreds or thousands who put all their efforts into creating something, and it just gets ignored in the store, ‘ said Erica Sadun, a programmer and the author of ‘The iPhone Developer ‘s Cookbook. ‘
