I ‘d been seeing quite a few references to how great the upcoming iPhone app for Nine Inch Nails is, over the last few days “ and finally got a chance to watch a video demo of the app today.
The demo of NIN Access “ the band ‘s free iPhone app that ‘s due to be released any moment now “ is done by Trent Reznor, Rob Sheridan, and Kevin Rose (yes that Kevin Rose, founder of Digg).
The video highlights some impressive features of NIN Access, including:
- Its very powerful ‘portal ‘ features, into the NIN.com site “ offering a very close experience to the full site it looks like
- Access to tons of media “ from band and fans ‘ photos and videos, to over 11,000 remixes done by NIN fans
- Access to NIN.com Forums “ nicely optimized for the iPhone
- Lots of location awareness bells & whistles “ from filters in the forums to let you see just posts from those who are nearby (within X miles specified by you) to a Nearby area of the app that will show you all users / profiles / updates globally, or let you drill down to 2 / 5 / 10 / 100 miles way etc.
- Forums also have filter so you can set to see just local messages (from nearby) “ Rose ‘s example for this is great at concerts “ filter to see only posts from rest of folks at the show
Here ‘s a little more on the Nearby stuff, from a recent Wired piece on the app:
Nearby is "kind of like Twitter within the Nine Inch Nails network," says Rob Sheridan, Reznor’s long-time collaborator. "You can post a message or a photo by location, and if you’re at a show you can see conversations between other people who are right there."
Check out the Wired post for more details on how the idea for the app came about and lots more “ and have a look at the video demo of the app HERE “ and let us know what you think
