I don ‘t know what ‘s got into me this weekend “ maybe just too much fresh air and relaxation “ but I ‘ve got the bug for trying new iPhone Twitter apps again. I looked at the new TweetStack app on Friday evening, and during the latter stages of the weekend I ‘ve been playing quite a bit with Tweetsville.
Tweetsville has been out for several months, but I ‘d honestly never noticed it before seeing a mention of it in some sort of Twitter guide I was browsing through over the weekend. It ‘s from Tapulous, who are also the publishers of Twinkle, another iPhone Twitter client.
Having used Tweetsville a fair bit during the course of Sunday, once again I don ‘t feel like it could displace Tweetie as my clear iPhone Twitter app favorite, but it does have some interesting features that make it nice to work with. The things I instantly liked about it include:
It gives ‘Trends ‘ a spot right on its bottom bar. I like this because Trends are great to look at to see what ‘s currently got the most people buzzing on Twitter, and though other apps (including Tweetie) also allow you to view this, it ‘s usually buried somewhere much less prominent than the bottom nav bar
Speaking of the bottom nav bar, it also makes it easy to edit which icons appear there
It has a ‘History ‘ view (of your own recent tweets) that is accessible one layer closer than it is in Tweetie (i.e you can get to it in fewer taps)
It has Advanced Search features “ very cool
It also has a pretty clean and pleasant interface “ though I don ‘t like how plain its Direct Messages view is.
I think I ‘m going to keep both Tweetsville and TweetStack around for at least a little bit, and give them a closer look.
You can find Tweetsville in the App Store now, for $3.99.
