Smule “ the creators of the amazing Ocarina app “ have just launched their latest iPhone musical app, called Leaf Trombone World Stage.  It ‘s the same app that was previewed to a rapturous reception at Apple ‘s iPhone OS 3.0 Preview event.

The app features a new musical instrument “ which sounds something like a real trombone, but is inspired by ‘traditional Chinese leaf instruments ‘.  It also has built in even more social / community elements than Ocarina has “ with features like an ability for users to rate others ‘ performances and contribute to players ‘ rankings within the community.

A little more detail, from a great post at Venture Beat, on the Leaf Trombone instrument:

At the center of the Leaf Trombone app is a new musical instrument. Just as the Ocarina app was based loosely on the real-world Ocarina instrument, the Leaf Trombone sounds kind of like an actual trombone. But Smule has gotten a little more creative with its interface this time ” you move a slider up-and-down a leaf to make the desired sound.

The company says it was inspired by ‘traditional Chinese leaf instruments. ‘ You can either blow into the iPhone microphone to play or set the app to ‘touch ‘ mode, where no blowing is required

Leaf Trombone World Stage is in the App Store now, priced at $0.99.

Check out the post at Venture Beat “ HERE “ for lots more detail on Leaf Trombone and a great video demo as well.
