Rare But Nasty 3.0 Beta 3 Bug – Call Button Disappears In Phone App

Which one doesn ‘t belong?  That ‘d be the one on the right “ 936-18 WTF? Over the last few days I ‘ve seen a rare but very nasty little bug in the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 software “ the Call button disappearing in the Phone app.

This has only occurred twice for me “ but when it has it is impossible to make a call.  The two screencaps above are a normal Phone app screen “ on the left “ and the screen as it was a few minutes ago when this bug showed itself for the second time, on the right.

When this occurs, I can ‘t swipe or scroll or do anything (that I ‘ve thought of) to get the Call button back.

The first time I saw this occur, simply exiting the Phone app and going back in fixed things.  This time, this morning, that did not work and I had to restart the phone to get things back to normal.

Luckily, this is not occurring often so far “ but it is obviously a very major glitch when it does. Stability of the Phone app is a basic.

Anyone else seen this in Beta 3?

I get this once or twice a week. It is the only major bug I have encountered on this release.

@ iphonedocked – Hey J – glad to hear you are also suffering with this :) Nah, but glad to hear I'm not the only one …

Happens to me all the time, reboot fixes it.

I figure its beta, I should expect glitches and I move on.

  4. iphonedocked says:

    Thanks pal! hahahaha.

brandon – I definitely expect glitches too, and I'm still very happy with this latest beta overall. I just felt like this one was worth mentioning as it is in the major glitch category – anything that breaks the Phone app, even in a beta, is noteworthy, especially for those who may be on the fence about running this beta right now …

I've seen this! I was just writing a blog post myself on the issues I've been seeing in beta 3, with this among them. I have been able to get around it using GV Dialer, the Google Voice app, where the keypad is not affected by this bug and I can make a regular call without using my Google Voice number.

Re-starting the iPhone is the only way I've been able to get it to go away.

macgirl – you with your jetsetting, Barcelona-hopping, Google Voice Invite having ways! I'm one of the rabble who hasn't got an invite yet – but nice workaround if you can get it :)

  8. Happens to my beta every day.

  9. Critter says:

aye. happened a couple of times to me as well.

  10. patrickj says:

Cameron & Critter – thanks – between comments here and tweets I've received, definitely see that quite a few people have seen this bug. Hopefully it'll get squashed in next beta release …

Get this 2-3 times each day. Only way I can get rid of it is to reboot the phone. I can usually get around this by dialling via the contact

  12. Johnnyiv says:

This seems to be happening to me very frequently…. but i suppose instead of having to completely power off your iPhone, simply go into settings/general/international/language, and pick a different language. This will cause a “soft respring,” rather than having to power it off. Repeat this step to go back to your language of preference. Hope this helps you all. Major bug i agree!

  13. patrickj says:

Sofabed, Johnnyiv – definitely seems like tons of people on 3.0 Beta 3 are seeing this – and maybe more frequently than I originally thought. Johnny – that sounds like a decent workaround …

one of the most irritating bug in the new beta.. really incontinent. happened 2-3 times a day. had to reboot the phone to get it back to normal. try to force quit but couldnt work since the new beta remove the force quit feature, ironic eh? its beta but does not have force quit feature.. haha

  15. patrickj says:

shanp – you can say that again. I miss force quit sooooo much …
