Citrix Receiver for iPhone

Citrix has launched its much-anticipated Citrix Receiver app for the iPhone “ which provides secure remote access to Windows systems (those that have Citrix server-end software installed).

Citrix is a popular remote access solution for a lot of corporates  – so this new app should have instant appeal for IT departments and users in those environments.

Here are some of its features, per its App Store description:

  • WORK FROM ANYWHERE – real-time access to Windows apps and docs whether you ‘re in an airport, at the doctor ‘s office, or in a meeting.
  • HIGH DEFINITION EXPERIENCE – Citrix HDX technology delivers rich, multi-media content including websites built in Flash and Silverlight.
  • SIMPLE, INTUITIVE NAVIGATION – interact with Windows apps and docs using intuitive gestures to zoom, pan, click, scroll and type with ease. Use the Doc Finder option to easily navigate files and folders on your company network.
  • SAFE AND SECURE – data is encrypted and stored on your company network, not on your device.

And here are its requirements:

  • REQUIREMENTS: – Wi-Fi or 3G connection – Citrix XenApp 5 or Presentation Server 4.5 – XenApp Web Services (formerly known as PNAgent site)
  • RECOMMENDED: – Secure access via XenApp Secure Gateway or Access Gateway Standard Edition – Doc Finder hosted on Citrix XenApp (download at citrix.com/iphone)

I don ‘t have any clients I support that use Citrix, and I already use WinAdmin to connect to Windows-based servers when I need to, so I won ‘t be giving Citrix Receiver a go.  I ‘d love to hear reactions on it from any of you that do work in Citrix environments and have a chance to try it though.

Citrix Receiver is available now in the App Store, and is a free app.

b00st3d – I'm surprised they don't have an app out by now, especially as LogMeIn already has one in the App Store …
