Some of you Beta 5ers may have already seen this one, but I only experienced it for the first time last night “ another interesting little glitch when installing apps via the App Store on the iPhone.

Last night I saw some odd error messages I ‘d not had before when trying to install a new (and fun) Horseshoes app “ I had a solid WiFi connection at the time and the first error I got (I think) indicated issues at the App Store end, but I didn ‘t capture the first one.  The second one was this:

Error

I just OKed both of them and immediately re-tried the install “ and it succeeded “ but left the app looking a little like the odd man out on my home screen

MissingIcon

It appears that its icon was stolen “ probably by a creepy old man who was holding it hostage down by the abandoned mill.

Luckily, with no need to call Scooby Doo or Ghostbusters, the icon came back after a restart. :)

Anyone got any further insight on this one?

We have been encountering your latter issue as well since the install of 3.0 on many of our own applications. Some will sporadically install without any icon, just text under a blank icon. We are also seeing previously installed app's of our own having the icons changed when another is installed after. For example you install App [A] with the correct icon showing. Then after you install App [B] you will see that now both A & B have the same icon.

This is definitely something they need to look in as this only started to occur with the Beta 5 Release.

BeatFreaker – Yikes, the A & B confusion issue sounds even worse. Maybe we'll see another beta tomorrow to address some of this …

Yes I agree because there is no pattern or steps on how it occurs and it also doesn't occur with 100% frequency on applications that it previously happened on. At one point today it corrected itself after a random install. However unlike your issue the restart of the device is not correcting the matter.

BeatFreaker – ouch, that really does not sound nice. Hope the next beta squashes this one quick!

  5. Awwww, you bet me to it. I've installed 4 apps and they are all that way.

    iphonedocked – It's OK, you've got me beat on quantity now – 4 to 2 :)

Happens to me. Seems to happen when I add an app from itunes that wasn't loaded on the phone before.

    Sometimes a reboot fixes it

Sometimes a reboot crashes while booting, and I have to forcibly shut the phone off and try again.

Then I can't launch any apps until I connect to itunes and do some kind of copy operation whether it be a sync or backup.

Yeah guys – I'm still seeing this as well – even after a full restore last week. Maybe we'll see Beta 6 tonight and maybe that'll sort it out :)

Anyone else experience the symptom of your iphone just grinding to a slow crawl after waking up from sleep/inactivity/regular use? It happens randomly but definitely more noticeably once a day.

Where you type something and the letters don't appear right away and then fill in quickly a few seconds later. Or you tap something and it seems frozen but then actually does it after a long delay.

Weirdness and unacceptable. I don't expect beta 6, i think and hope they figured all this bugs out and the release addresses all these missing icon, keyboard, and slow to a crawl issues.

I just removed my apps (via syncing) and then added them again back to my iphone. All icons were corrected.
