Salt, Wound, Backup, Palm Pre

A few days ago I did a post where I moaned and groaned pretty heavily about the lack of any *real* usable backup solutions for the iPhone.
In the last couple of days I ‘ve spotted a little bit of salt for my backup wound, in amongst all the buildup to the launch of the Palm Pre.
Apparently the Pre will offer daily automatic backup. I haven ‘t found any details yet on this “ so not sure where it backs up to, what and how much it backs up, how much control users have over what is backed up etc.
I have to imagine though that almost no matter what those answers are, this is going to be better than what we have on the iPhone. I ‘ll be looking out for more info, and probably cussing and stamping my feet a bit each time I see any. ![]()

Aw man, that's gonna be pretty slick. Wish Apple would do something like that. Oh well… *sigh*
What kind of backup are you looking for in the iPhone?
I want OTA Backup and I want a bit more than just backup. I mean the current backup is decent… but I'd like to be able to pull out files from application document directories. For example, I'd love to be able to pull files from Air Sharing… hell they're my files.
Did I mention I want OTA Backup. Yea… and OTA SYNC!
Yeah, I'd like OTA – as an option – as well – maybe not for full backups of X gig of everything, but certainly for incremental type backups, or selective backups where I only choose app data changes or similar.
iPhonedocked – I want *real, usable* backup. Not a backup that I have to completely avoid whenever the phone has an issue. I want a backup where I can make some (any!) choices – not have Apple decide for me that I don't need the Camera Roll, or call logs, or note, and so on – want to make my own choices. Also would love to have any sort of automated / scheduled backups. Hate to use these words, but I'd like the same level of backup abilities as I had back on Windows Mobile …
