iPhone 3GS Processor / RAM Specs Revealed? If These Are Right – Hurrah!

Here ‘s a lovely rumor and a half. It seems T-Mobile Netherlands has let slip the details on the new iPhone ‘s RAM and processor specs that Apple has not yet revealed “ and they are just as had been rumored leading up to the WWDC keynote, and they are very good news.
The processor is 600MHz (a significant step up from the 3G ‘s 412MHz) and RAM is doubled to 256mb. Here is Gizmodo ‘s take on the likely accuracy of these figures:
Even though Apple wouldn’t give us the specific numbers, T-Mobile Netherlands has been a pretty reliable source for leaking things Apple doesn’t quite want known, even new hardware. Besides, those specs are exactly what had been rumored, so we’re just left to wonder why Apple bothered to hide them.
I agree. In particular, those specs match what Daring Fireball ‘s John Gruber had been expecting. If these do prove accurate, I ‘m even happier shelling out my money on the 3GS.

Anandtech gives an in depth rundown of the inner components of the iPhone 3G S. He compares the System on Chip of the iPhone & 3G with the new 3G S and explains how the new phone may very well live up to the claim of it being up to 2x faster despite the seemingly marginal frequency jump because of some further core enhancements. It is a good read.
Background: The website has been around forever. They're very hardware-centric and started as a PC overclocking site I think. For many, they have long been the go-to source for heavy technical details on all the latest CPUs and their architectures. They've consistently had tons more technical content than all the popular media websites. The author is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough.
AI just posted a much easier to understand article on the iPhone 3G S processer and GPU. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/06/10/a_c…
aflorence – on the Intense Debate error (2nd link) I've not seen that before and I think Intense Debate will need to offer guidance on it – I'm just getting used to this new system myself.
On the first link, thanks – I think – never heard of that site before so not sure how accurate all their info is or why they have so much more to say than Giz etc. Perhaps a comment explaining the reason for the link would enlighten me …
I think that was my fault. I signed up for Intense Debate, submitted a comment, wasn't sure the comment took, pasted link again, but this time it pasted the link to verify my email for the new Intense Debate signup I had copied to the pasteboard instead of the previously copied anandtech link.
aflorence = ah. ok – now I'm up to speed. Thanks for the background on Anandtech – good stuff – and glad the Intense Debate side of things worked out
Pretty good specs on the performance side. I just wish they'd give the camera more oomph. I know this is not a "thing" you take pictures with all the time but it's quite nifty to have a phone/media player/whatevertheiphoneisusedfor with a camera you can use in those cases where you'd be kicking yourself for not bringing a good camera. Again, the Japanese have 8.1 mp cameras on their phone, why can't Apple do it?
Hope that makes sense. LOL
Jay – I don't know much on the camera side of things – what specs would you like to see them step up to?
Thanks for this one too aflorence – good article …
I think SE's got 6 megapixels cam.. I'm just wondering why Apple can't do that.

From what I've seen in comments, these days the megapixels really doesn't make any difference in quality. With a 10 mp camera with a poor quality lens and ccd sensor, you can have yourself a huge poor quality photo. They say that a 2-3 mp camera with a decent quality lens and ccd sensor will blow away the contrasting high mp camera with lower quality lenses or ccd sensors. Megapixels are mostly used for marketing kind of like interpolated resolutions on scanners.
Ow, so that's how it works. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
