According to a report at Apple Insider today, Best Buy will be offering an accident insurance plan for the iPhone 3GS “ something which you cannot get from Apple or AT&T.

While Apple has never offered more than a standard two-year extended AppleCare warranty and AT&T has specifically exempted the iPhone from its insurance offerings, Black Tie covers regular technical problems as well as drops, spills and other failures that would normally require a costly repair service or the purchase of an entirely new device.

If you choose to but your iPhone 3GS at Best Buy, they will apparently be offering their Geek Squad Black Tie Protection service with it. The plan ‘s coverage sounds pretty comprehensive as well “ covering broken screens and providing a temporary phone if the iPhone cannot be fixed on the spot (until a repair or replacement is ready within 3 days or less).

All this will not come cheap though apparently.  Apple Insider states that it will cost around $180/year “ almost equaling the ‘new / qualified customer ‘ price for the 16GB model.

Check out Apple Insider ‘s report HERE for lots more detail on Best Buy ‘s offering.

Do you have any plans to insure your iPhone 3GS in any way?  Do you currently insure your 3G or 1st gen model?  We ‘d love to hear your solutions and suggestions

    Why was my comment deleted?

Patrick did you impose a word limit?

aflorence – Nope, I didn't impose any word limit – but Intense Debate does have a built-in Blacklist of words that cause comments to be automatically deleted (without an admin ever seeing them).

Ah the joys of comments systems – I had a quick look and discovered 'insurance' was one of the blacklisted words – and removed it, then left a comment here saying the same as I'm saying again now. And … the comment was auto-deleted. Marvelous. So I feel your pain, and I hope you'll try to re-add yours now – sorry for the hassle on this …
