One thing that never fails to impress me is how well the iPhone Dev Team seem to stay at least in step with, or more like a little half step ahead of, Apple when it comes to jailbreaking and unlocking new firmware.

Tonight they will be doing a live demo of a software unlock for the as-yet-unreleased OS 3.0 firmware. The night before the public release of the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware no less.

Here ‘s some more detail on their plans, as posted at their blog site:

On Tuesday evening (just before the big Apple release) we ‘ll do a live demo of the yellowsn0w carrier unlock working on official 3.0 firmware.   The actual link for the feed will be twittered by @MuscleNerd and also placed here when the feed starts.  The demo should answer everything you need to know about the new yellowsn0w.  But it ‘s good news for iPhone 3G unlockers everywhere.

Meanwhile, we ‘re in the middle of testing our PwnageTool and QuickPwn tools, which will work with iTunes 8.2. The jailbreak of course continues to work on 3.0 for all devices it ever worked on, thanks due the Pwnage 2.0 technique released last summer.   Our tools will be released no sooner than the Apple release (just in case!).

So very good news for those who have been awaiting the ability to unlock on 3.0, and for those waiting On Pwnage Tool (my favorite ever jailbreak app) and QuickPwn versions that will work with the latest iTunes and 3.0.

The live demo “ according to Musclenerd ‘s tweets today, should start no later than 7:00pm tonight US Pacific time.  Follow Musclenerd on Twitter to find out more.
