As a few of you have commented about on here over the last few days, AT&T has dropped the ball on activations for the iPhone 3GS, big time “ with some people being made to wait for up to 48 hours with an iPhone that was not yet a phone.  There are reports about this all over the web “ TechCrunch has a good one HERE for example.

Apple has been offering at least some of those affected a bit of compensation for their activation nightmare over the weekend “ in the form of a $30 iTunes store credit.

Apart from wondering how many more feet AT&T can put wrong with the 3GS and OS 3.0 launches,  I also wonder just how badly some of these things “ slowness on MMS and tethering, plus the activation debacle “ must be souring relations between Apple and AT&T.

I think it ‘s a good gesture on Apple ‘s part to offer some compensation, but wonder whether affected users feel it is enough.

What do you guys think?  I know at least some of you have suffered through this, and also some of you have reported receiving the compensation offer letter from Apple. Let us know your thoughts in the comments

$30 iTunes store credit is not enough… AT&T should offer a free month! Heck, i pre ordered my iphone the day after they announced the 3gs and still haven't gotten it! It supposed to come in today. I was furious on Friday with apple

I feel you beast52. They should have let the phones arrive earlier instead of later for those who pre-ordered. Those are their most loyal customers and should have catered to them first. On another note, I have to end up returning my phone because I accidentally dropped it at a friends house and a portion of the screen is now unresponsive. Com'n apple, I know your product is better than that. In any case, the local apple store agreed to replace my iPhone for me as there is no physical damage to it. By the way, thanks to my good friends for spiking my drinks and making me drop my phone haha (joke ;) ) In all, I think it was worth it. By the way, excellent blog Patrick. Keep up the good work!

sounds like the phone is poorly built?! Your comment is making me think twice about upgrading… i don't want a phone that'll break once i drop it. I'm guessing you had a gr8 weekend huh?! (other than your phone breaking)

Wow, that would have me well upset as well. I thought that delivery date was meant to be guaranteed.

Maximus808 – glad to hear you got a replacement. Thanks for the kind words about the site!

I got the email, but this email was sent to those who got an extra 48 hrs for their phone to be activated on top of the other 48 hrs from fri. And i think $30 is not enough! More credit should be added!
