Apple May Drop NVIDIA in Future Macs

SemiAccurate is reporting that Apple will be dropping NVIDIA based designs in their upcoming Macs. This is believed to be due to recent NVIDIA manufacturing defects that affected MacBook Pros. The switch away from NVIDIA chips could last as long as 3-4 years according to the source.

As MacRumors points out, this isn’t shocking news due to Intel and NVIDIA’s licensing battle over NVIDIA’s ability to produce Nehalem-based chipsets. Nehalem is Intel’s line of processors that Apple uses in their Mac Pro line and is expected to use on their mobile computers later this year.

This whole story is curious because the recent shift to NVIDIA chips was the reason for Apple’s nice improvements in low-end graphics processing in their consumer products.
