iPhone 3GS Iron Man Exercise – 14 Days & Counting

I ‘ve mentioned the ‘solid as a rock ‘ performance of the iPhone 3GS recently, as I ‘ve been hugely impressed with how well it is running, especially in terms of memory management and its ability to run every app I throw at it, and never show any lag, slowness, freeze-ups, or anything that might have me wanting to give it a reboot and refresh.

Since the 3GS has just kept on shining in this area, I thought I ‘d give it a run for its money and see how long it will go without a reboot and continue to be a happy camper and perform well.  As you can see in the screencap, it ‘s well on its way to 15 days at the moment “ and it ‘s still performing just as well as it was a week ago.

I currently have 9.5 home screens worth of apps and give the iPhone a workout with quite a lot of them every day.  Apps that are my favorites and essentials, apps I ‘m currently reviewing, some pretty powerhouse type games like Doom Resurrection and Baseball Slugger, and apps I ‘m just trying out for myself or my daughter.  So far, the 3GS has still not blinked.  Not at all.  How often are you all rebooting your 3GS, if at all?

  1. Rebooted last night… I thought it was a radio issue. Turns out it was just an AT&T SUCKS issue. Seriously 25 minutes to download a 2MB file (on 5 bars of 3G).

  2. I've had mine for a couple weeks, and haven't rebooted it at all. The performance improvements from the first generation to 3GS are nothing short of astounding.

    Patrick,

Are you running any jailbreak apps? Just curious as I hear Winterboard can cause lag.

  4. the 3GS is great at memory management and boasts crazy speed! I have had no problems at all with freezing or lag. I'm so confident I decided to Jailbreak it today and give it a run. I'm hoping I don't see any slow downs. I'd love to hear some comments from people that have a jailbroken 3GS.

  6. I got my 3GS 2 days ago. I was on a jailbroken 3G running winterboard and a pretty heavy windows vista theme. After i jailbroke i had slowdown everywhere on the phone. That's what made me decide on the 3GS, becuase it was getting pretty annoying. But I love my 3GS!! Not an ounce of slowdown anywhere! running all the same things i was on my 3G and it is performing beautifully!
Hey Patrick, what app is that you are using to view your ram in this article? Wanted to get another one since FreeMemory is pretty much pointles now. Not that i'll need it, but good to have for monitoring purposes.

Hi – the app is called iStat – great little app – also shows you your device's UDID (useful if you need to give it to a developer to join a beta program etc) and lets you email it easily. BTW, just did another post today on how the 3GS is doing after 21 days with no reboot. :)

  7. yeah, i saw! isn't it great! lol thanks patrick.
