SafeWallet

SBSH ‘s SafeWallet iPhone password manager app has been updated, to Version 1.1.

The update sounds good, and offers one major new addition “ a PC Companion app and the ability to sync between it and the iPhone app.

Here are the highlights of this new update for SafeWallet, per SBSH ‘s press release:

  • PC Companion – Full wallet application solution that brings full wallet management to your Windows PC!
  • Sync Manager – Sync manager designed for iPhone/iPod Touch users and bring full wallet-syncing capabilities between your iPhone and Windows PCs
  • Custom Templates – Create and edit custom templates for your new wallet cards using the new PC Companion. Custom templates are synced back to the iPhone automatically and transparently with each sync!
  • iPhone 3.0 Support – Full support for Apple’s latest iPhone 3.0 to ensure support for new devices in the market

The iPhone / PC sync is wireless, which is always so much nicer than having to cable up to do it.  Right now the PC companion app is Windows only “ although the release notes at SBSH ‘s forum note that they are  ‘investigating the option to produce also a Mac version in the near future ‘.

Another thing that caught my eye about this update is that SafeWallet and its PC companion are quite competitively priced as compared to some of the other leading options for iPhone password manager apps.

As part of SBSH new pricing strategy SafeWallet for iPhone plus SafeWallet PC Companion is available for users for only $11.95!

That stands up well when you look at three other leading apps in this category for the iPhone:

  • eWallet: $9.95 for desktop app (Windows only), $9.99 for iPhone app
  • Spb Wallet: $9.95 for desktop app (Windows only), $9.99 for iPhone app
  • 1Password: $19.95 for desktop (Mac only app, $4.99 for iPhone app.

I have not tried SafeWallet as yet, as I use a Mac and do not fancy relying on sync via a virtual machine running Windows “ otherwise I ‘d be giving it a look very soon, as that ‘s an attractive price point and I ‘ve had very good experiences with several SBSH apps back in Windows Mobile days.

You can find SafeWallet in the App Store now, priced at $5.99.

I would like to throw LastPass into the mix. It is an online password manager with a nice Firefox plugin available. You can then install bookmarklets through their site onto your iphone and use LastPass on your phone. I use it, much cheaper all around.

Security could be more problematic since you're storing your passwords online but they do encrypt them.

To each their own, but I just can't see wanting an online password keeping app – not with the way even big sites get raped and hacked these days.
