Incase Discontinues Power Slider Cases, Prepping New Model

Incase has informed iLounge that current models of the Incase Power Slider have been discontinued and are no longer available from their site. Although third party retailers may still have them, Incase is planning to release a new version of the Power Slider. Current models have reportedly been known to decrease 3G reception for some users. Incase plans to address the issue with the new version. A specific release date is unknown, but it will be ‘around the holiday timeframe. ‘

A visit to the Incase website seems to confirm this information “ as although there ‘s still a picture of the Power Slider case, it is not linked to anywhere, and the case does not appear in the sections for iPhone 3G or 3GS cases.

I ‘ve been tempted to grab one of these Incase Power Sliders “ which is one of those that is a case plus extra battery combined – each of the last few times I ‘ve been at the local Apple Store.  Now I ‘m glad I didn ‘t as it sounds like the next version may be more worthwhile.

Any of you who own one of these seeing the reported 3G reception issues?

Go for the Mophie Juice Pack Air. Though it has slightly less juice than the InCase, it is a bit slimmer and feels a lot slimmer. I had the InCase Power Slider and although it wasn't that much thicker, it just felt like a big brick in perception. The Mophie, in perception, is slicker.

I like(d) my inCase powerSlider but it does occasionally interfere with my signal. Plus, it is not compatible with my screen protector (which does seem to be required on the 3gs because the screen is pretty scratchable). But the extra battery power is great, and I"ll most likely pick up the new version when it comes out. Hopefully they'll fix more than just the signal issues – probably will have more power too. More juice always helps.

I bought the Mophie Juice Pack Air and returned it the next day. Not only did it take FOREVER to charge, it wouldn't let me sync and the battery didn't last long enough to really make a big difference. I bought the Power Slider on clearance from Best Buy for $47.00 and I like it much better!
As far as signal loss, AT&T reception is so spotty I couldn't really tell you if it makes much difference or not. My girlfriend has AT&T also and we compared signals in different locations and my iPhone would lose the signal before her cheapo-phone would every time. It didn't matter if I had the Power Slider on or not.

I have owned an Incase Powerslider since July 2009 and yes, there is definitely slight signal degradation when the powerslider is used. Overall though, I would say the additional battery life along with the well thought through implementation of the case design and the ease of syncing the iPhone and charging both the iPhone and the Powerslider while in the Powerslider case would make it worth the slight loss in signal strength for most. Unless of course you are regularly in an area with one or two bars to begin with – in that case I would look for another solution.

I bought the power slider with my new iPhone in January – never had any additional issues with signal (other than AT&T having sucky service in general). I love it….. hope it comes back improved.

I use my I phone as my primary work phone, so I work the battery pretty hard. I bought the power slider as much out of necessity as anything. The device failed after only 3 months or so, yielding a “device not compatible” error message every time I attached to the iphone. It did appear to provide juice, but the error would continue to pop up, with a chime notification. Incase replaced under warranty. Warranty replacement failed after 4 months with a different failure mode. I really like the form factor, but hopefully more attention paid to quality in the next release. Anyone else experiencing warranty issues?
