Mixed Up iPhone Icons Bug Still Around
![]()
Up to now, I ‘ve been fortunate and not been affected by the commonly reported ‘mixed up icons ‘ bug on iPhone OS 3.0 “ where apps display the correct name but the wrong icon, and similar issues. The bug has been around for a couple months, and apparently is still affecting plenty of users, according to a recent article at MacWorld.
Admittedly, users are shooting in the dark a bit here. No one knows for sure what the cause or solution is. It would really help if Apple officially acknowledged this symptom and offered a definite fix via one of its Knowledge Base articles.
I can understand if a fix may need to wait for a 3.1 firmware update, but at least an acknowledgement and some sort of communication should ‘ve been done long before now “ after 2 months worth of reports at blog sites and Apple discussion forums. I ‘d expect a far better response even from an individual app developer for an issue like this, and much more so from Apple themselves on a major OS bug.

There is a temp fix. Delete one of the apps in question off the phone, reboot, then go to the app store (on the phone) re-download that app and while it's downloading, power down the unit and turn it back on. Voila! fixed.
I haven't even _heard_ of this, however maybe Apple will see this and it will further convince them for app page organization in iTunes 9!
Surprised you haven't heard of it – think it's been pretty widely reported over the last couple months. I'd like to see Apple A) say something / anything about the issue B) get it fixed in next .1 update and C) give us some much better page organization options in iTunes 9.
Is this exclusive to one firmware version? 2.0, 3.0? I got a reply on Twitter saying that with 1G firmware he'd never seen it, interesting.
As per the first sentence of the post, it's a 3.0 bug. Not sure what 1G firmware is – does that mean 1.x? In any case, it has only been reported on 3.0 as far as I'm aware.
I just experienced this problem myself when I loaded the app Creeps! … which said to reboot after loading … Which I did. Then the icon changed to the Google icon?

I had this happen once for a couple of apps on my 3GS about a week after launch.
I unchecked them in iTunes, synced to have them removed from the phone, and checked them and synced again. The problem was solved and it hasn't returned since then.
