News! News! Read all about it!

In case you haven’t seen the tweets or posts all over the web in the last hour, the Facebook 3.0 app (iTunes link) that everyone has been anxiously waiting for has now become available in the App Store. Everyone picks up their iPhone and starts poking the App Store icon…

I did notice a quirk though, and not sure if it’s just localized to my iPhone or more widespread. Even though the 3.0 version was posted to the App Store, my iPhone was still showing no updates available. When I browsed to the App Store, it clearly showed the 3.0 version, but the Download button was greyed out and showed Installed, which I knew to be wrong.

So it seemed that the App Store was mis-interpretting the version I actually had. I’m not sure if the glitch was on my end, or if the App Store was caching something, but I ended up just deleting the Facebook app from my iPhone and then re-downloading it, and I did indeed get the 3.0 version installed. If anyone else is trying to download the update and it’s not showing up, you might try this and see if it helps.

I doubt anyone has actually made it this far in this post, since you’re all probably too busy trying to install the update, but keep in mind that we’ll be posting a real review of all the new features, tips, and tricks soon. :)

It doesn't show up in the updates in the app store, but I went and searched for the app and just clicked install. Then it updated it like normal from there.

Folks – the issue you are having is exactly what my post above describes. If you re-read what I suggested: deleting the app and just re-installing the version from the App Store (yes, the one labeled as 2.5), you WILL get the 3.0 version. The App Store appears to have the version mis-labeled, so it's not offering it as an update.
