iPhone 3GS Jailbreak – Finally Found a Theme

I ‘ve been running my iPhone 3GS jailbroken for a little over a month now. Overall, I ‘m more than happy with running it this way, and have no plans to switch back to stock, other than for major firmware updates “ and even then I will look to re-jailbreak when possible.
One thing I ‘d been missing from ‘old school ‘ jailbreak days for the last few weeks was theming, giving the iPhone a little bit of a different look. Well not anymore. I ‘ve finally found a theme that I like a lot, that does not force me into transforming the phone too much, and that appears to have little or no effect on performance.
As many of you will already recognize, it ‘s the Glasklart theme, the one that Gabe did a feature post on just a couple days ago. In fact, Gabe ‘s post was the final nudge for me “ I grabbed the theme and installed it a little while after reading it.
Thanks to shobizz3000 and a few of you who have suggested this theme over recent weeks when I mentioned not finding any I liked. I noted those suggestions and had a peek at the theme a few times. So I was nearly there, and Gabe ‘s post did the rest.
Check out Gabe ‘s post for more screencaps and info on the theme. I ‘ll just say that I like it a lot, and my iPhone is still running as well as ever while using it. I haven ‘t turned on any of the theme ‘s ‘extra ‘ features “ I ‘m just using it in combination with the Winterboard setting to use my own wallpaper.
My only small issue with using a theme so far is the age old one of not yet finding icons for many of the apps I have installed. Glasklart comes with a very good range of icons, but when you have 10 screens worth of apps, and some of them are not popular hits sort of apps, it ‘s always going to be an issue.
Just a quick random thought for the day on that “ wouldn ‘t it be cool if someone ran a site for finding icons for some of the most popular themes, a place that made it dead easy to find all the ones you ‘re looking for “ searchable by app name, by theme, and so forth. If anybody ‘s got some free time on the weekend, maybe whip one of those up for us?
Or does such a site already exist? If so, somebody please share a link for it.

Ooo I like that theme. I've been thinking about jailbreaking again, since iStat's "free mem" button went bye bye. I'd like to have sbsettings again, anyway to quickly enable/disable radios. It's just my last two experiences with jailbreaking haven't been very fun. Lots of crashes and reduced performance. But I'm still thinking about it.
I know what u mean Josh. My past experiences weren't all that hot either. But I tell u what, I'm running a 3GS jialbroken with Redsnow, and can't truely be any happier with the performance. I don't know if it's the increased power of the phone or a cleaner JB coding from the Dev Team, I've said goodbye to all of the frequent resprings and restarts of the past! It's worth giving it a shot I think, especially since your leaning that way. You can always go right back, right??
Isn't it sweet? As Gabe said in his post on it, it's such an easy one to 'stay fresh' with as well, since a simple changeover of your wallpaper makes for a whole new look.
Sorry to hear you had troubles with previous JB efforts – which methods did you use?
You should have tried Classica II, or Oxygen…there are superb clean themes that only change the normal iphone theme a little bit, but enough to make it special. And you don´t have to go and find alot of different icons.
I'll note those down to look at in future. Very happy with Glasklart for now.
Oh, and for Josh and Shobizz – I've also used the redsn0w jailbreak with excellent results.
Your welcome Patrick
I would ask on MacThemes for the icons you want. People will make them for you.
OMG! patrick please with a theme???? No way! Haha!! Well I will say I'm happy to hear that. I figured that u would like it…I mean what's not too right?? And THANKS FOR THE SHOUT(it made my day)!
So now that we have THAT problem solved on to the next venture. U should try bosspaper!! Using that with Glasklart will have u smiling everytime u look at your phone. It gives u total control over your wallpapers and works well in conjunction with winterboard. You can pick an infinite number of your wallpapers to cycle through, as well as the time between switching and the transition effect(the water ripple animation is my fav)! Worth checking, I have a hunch you'll be glad u did!
Bosspaper is on my list of stuff to look at soon too – I'm taking it real, real slow with this stuff. Keep the suggestions coming though – they're helping a few of us out it seems
I saw Shobizz's comment in one of your posts and, being the curious girl that I am, tried it out immediately and love it. I've tried full themes before, but never stuck with them for long because I just like the "user wallpaper" function too much. This is the perfect solution.
I do wish that it worked with all my icons. Unfortunately, I'm not too comfortable using SSH and all of that, so I'll just have to hope the maker of the theme updates them all eventually.
Gotta love the name, 'Glasklart '. It means 'Clear as glass' or something along those lines in Swedish. Still, I don't think I'll install this one. I'm afraid of performance drops
Yeah the name is very apt. I've not seen any performance drop at all after a couple days using it.
I'm on my 3rd iPhone and have jailbroken every one. I was waiting for 3.1 before jailbreaking my 3GS, but, since it stopped seeming imminent I went ahead.
I used to do themes with Winterboard but all the icon changes and not changes got old. Now I keep the stock icons and use BossPaper. Terrific. I also like jailbreaking to:
- Change the system font with FontSwap.
- Install the British Female Voice system sounds.
- SBSettings.
- Since getting Navigon, I really appreciate Backgrounder.
- May try mQuickDo.
All good.
Oh, brave man on the font swap. Good reasons. You should give mQuickDo a go.
Where can i get the wallpaper you are using? Looks awesome with that theme
It's in Cydia – free wallpapers pack called 'Mac Wallpapers' – has a lot of nice ones in it.
Thankyou, they really look good
Cool – glad you like them too. I'm enjoying them tons.
OK, so here is the n00b question of the day, on a some what related note. Does anyone know of (or have) a good step-by-step for the redsn0w jailbreak? I am very nervous, but want to try it.
Thanks in advance!
It depends which model of iPhone you have and which firmware you're running. There is a good set of tutorials, for each model of the iPhone, at:
http://www.hackthatphone.com/3x/read_me_first_pag…
That's just one site, there are plenty of others with good step by step guides as well. I did a short post on my last redsn0w jailbreak with the 3.0.1 firmware installed:

Let us know if you need more options.
Thanks for the quick reply. I am using the 3GS on the 3.01 firmware. I will check out the links you provided. Thanks again.
No worries – hope it goes well for you.
At first, I really liked the theme, but after a couple days of using it I realized that I really do not like it much. Yes, it's sleek and cool, but I have a hard time finding the apps I am looking for because of the icons, they are just too plain for me to be able to quickly spot the app I am looking for.
I agree with you completely on this. When I first read about it here I installed it as well, but since there is no color in the icons they all end up blending in together. I've since switched to the treneo theme which has some great variations of the icons. http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1679…
Has anybody found any unique bundles for badges on icons? I've seen a few in some screenshots but didn't actually find them anywhere.
Getting used to the icons is a little daunting at first – and mine are a mix of icons that are covered and not covered by the theme for now – but even so, I like the theme more than enough to stick with it

Aqwoah probably has more available icons than any other theme on the market….nice to look at…has several variations for you to choose from…strong support by the developer
I always liked Aqwoah tons back in my early jailbreak days – great theme.

Yup, I know there are ways to get icons done (or to do yourself if you've got Photoshop) – I just think it'd be super cool if somebody did a sort of clearing house for this as well – a central place to find them.
