SBSettings App Gets a Minor Update

SBSettings iPhone app

SBSettings “ one of the most useful jailbreak iPhone apps “ has had an update, to Version 3.0.2.  This update is by no means a huge one, but is quite useful.  Here ‘s what it adds:

  • Makes the window less sensitive to open by mistake for 3.0 users.
(You have to move your finger at least 50 pixels across the status bar to invoke it.)
  • Adds option to invoke it via tapping with two separate fingers on carrier logo and battery icon at same time

I ‘ve found the second of those quite handy already.

For those who don ‘t already know it, SBSettings is the superb jailbreak app (available in Cydia) that lets you invoke it from anywhere in the OS and quickly tap to toggle key services (especially those that suck a lot of battery) On and Off.  You can also use it to view and kill off running processes, restart the springboard, power the iPhone off, and more.  It ‘s a must-have if you ‘re jailbroken.

Update: As Shobizz3000 has pointed out in the comments below, the latest version is 3.0.4.1, not 3.0.2 as I originally stated.  And the differences in this latest version are limited to just a minor change on the More screen.  The changes I noted were mostly from a previous point update.

Apologies for the mistake on this one. My only excuse is that Cydia – in my view – presents information very poorly on app pages, surrounded and overwhelmed by ads – and I find it very tricky to find any useful info on its pages quite a lot of the time.

Hands down the BEST jailbreak app there is. Why Apple doesn't implement something similar, I don't understand!

I agree this is a great app – it's was my favorite for a very long time, and is still joint favorite, alongside mQuickDo. Why Apple does not do something (much) more clever for services toggling is beyond me.

I have got to install this when I get my iPhone.

  3. Hey Patrick, just wanted to point out that the update was actually to version 3.0.4.1. Version 3.0.2 has been outdated for several months now. The change in this update was only in the text that displays on the "more" screen. Another way you can check update info is to select the "change log" button in the package.

Oh, my bad. See that now. Honestly, Cydia leaves me confused in various places – between the pages that show only portions of real content while waiting on huge ads to load, and the way ads make it hard to find any of the actual info bars on a page, I often miss something I wanted to see. The fact that the app's actual description starts with 'v3.0.2 makes the window less …' didn't help me out much either :)

Anyway, my mistake and thanks for pointing it out.

  5. Oh yeah, no doubt man. That's why we're all here! :) Yes, the more you use cydia the more familiar you'll get with filtering through all the crap to find the few tidbits of info your actually looking for. Ive noticed that the actual app description page for most apps always stays the same. They don't seem to change them often. I've gotten quite fond of checking the change log on apps before i update because sometimes they're so minor i can't figure out what was changed!! LOL

I just downloaded this app. Completly amazing! I'm much more likely to turn off wifi, bluetooth, 3G etc to save on battery now. The only thing I'm confused about is that under more / toggle options/ it implies that SSH should be visible along with wifi blue tooth, 3G, brightness and processes but whilst the other 5 are visible SSH does not seem to be. Am I missing something?
Also wondering why it needs to 'reset lauguages' after quitting? I realise I should probably find a SB settings forum but thought I might chance getting an answer here.. No pressure!

On the SSH part, this likely just means that you do not have the SSH service installed – which you would not unless you either chose to install via options in a Pwnage Tool jailbreak or installed OpenSSH via Cydia. I'm not sure about the reset languages piece.
