If you updated to iPhone OS 3.1 on an iPhone 2G or 3G or an iPod Touch 1G, and want your jailbreak back, then there ‘s great news for you today, via the Dev Team and an updated version of their superb Pwnage Tool app.

Because of changes with Apple ‘s update techniques this will be a multipart release, starting with the initial release of PwnageTool for Mac OS X – this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), The iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G.  NB: THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR 2ND or 3RD GEN IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don ‘t bug us about it – we ‘ll release when we have something ready.

I ‘m on the 3GS, so no joy for me just yet “ but I still feel optimistic that a solution for the 3GS will come along fairly soon.  Having said that, I am definitely still kicking myself for doing the 3.1 update.  No way is the lame 1.0 version of app organizing in iTunes worth the trade-off of no more jailbreak.

If you ‘ve got one of the iPhone / Touch models that can be jailbroken on 3.1, then you should check out the Dev Team ‘s blog post HERE for all the details you ‘ll need to know.

  1. Kick Kick Kick!!! I'm kicking you too!! No, don't worry, the Dev Team never fails. I'm still on 3.0, because I didn't feel the 3.0.1 update was worth the hours of re-organizing my phone again. But I truly believe that the DT will even find a way to exploit the iphones upgraded to 3.1. Because if not, that pretty much means that Apple would pretty much be selling a jailbreak-proof iphone in all the new models shipping with 3.1. I just don't see that happening…..there is ALWAYS a way.

I deserve the kicks. I felt like I needed to see the app organizing stuff, having wished for it for so long. Really not worth it at all though. But I agree with you – the Dev Team will work something out for 3.1 in days / weeks / whatever it takes.

  3. By the way, here's a VERY and almost OVERLY informative article by Saurik detailing what needs to be done to protect your ability to jailbreak in the future….very good info and instructions for anyone trying to stay in the jailbreak game!
