Crazy Big iPhone Numbers: Almost 1,400 Apps Approved in One Day

I ‘m frequently amazed by some of the sheer numbers associated with the iPhone. Today ‘s example comes from App Shopper and their report on app approvals last week including the ‘avalanche ‘ of approvals last Friday.
At the end of last week we saw a massive number of App approvals on the iTunes App Store. This resulted in a over 1300 apps (of which over 300 were games) appearing in one day alone. We had heard Apple had had quite a back log of approvals, so hopefully, they have cleared the queue for now.
I learned of the report via a Gizmodo post about it “ and they offered up some nice comparison numbers:
That’s like if the entire Blackberry App World catalog were published in just one day. 1400 is more than double the number of games currently on the PS3 (557) and just a tad short of the number of titles in the PS2′s library (somewhere around 1,900).
I know, I know “ we could insert any number of jokes here about how probably 1,300 out of the 1,394 approved that day involved rude body noises, bikini girls, and Werewolf reminders. But the truth is there are likely a lot of good quality apps of all kinds in amongst there as well “ and that huge number is just a reminder of the massive developer interest in the iPhone platform, despite all the App Store screw-ups we all talk about.

I have been waiting for an update for Minigore (my favorite game) since August. Mountain Sheep, the developer, submitted the update back in August. Apple rejected the update on September 9th. It took Apple 1 month to let Mountain Sheep know about the rejection. Mountain Sheep has resubmitted their Minigore update on September 11. So let's see how long this takes Apple to accept or reject…… You can follow the Developer on: http://minigore.blogspot.com/

i looooove minigore! Gimme my update!
So….where's the Squarespace app? Not in store yet. I'm amazed. In a bad way.
Christy, Frank – as always, lots to be improved in Apple's 'processes' (which hardly deserve the name at times). Hope both of those get through soon.
There might have been a large number of updates just because developers added keywords to their apps (a new requirement to be found in the store)
Maybe so, although that change was made quite a little while back.
