Snapture News for Jailbreak Customers – FREE Upgrade to App Store Version!

SnaptureLetter

Here ‘s some very good news if you are an owner of the Snapture app from back in its jailbreak days.  Snapture Labs have published a letter to all ‘Snapture Jailbreak Customers ‘ explaining how they plan to deal with these loyal customers.  The short, and good, answer is:

Clear and simple, we ‘re offering every Snapture jailbreak customer a Free upgrade to the new Snapture on AppStore.

Clear, simple, and good to see.

You do have to make a little bit of effort in order to get your refund on the App Store version, but it looks quick and painless.  The steps are outlined HERE “ and they basically consist of: buy the app in the App Store, open it up, fill in four simple bits of information (your name, email, UDID, and Transaction ID) and send it.

I suggest using one of the various free apps to grab your UDID for the steps above. UDIDIT is one that I know is free and lets you copy your UDID to the clipboard (for pasting into the Snapture form). You can grab UDIDIT HERE.

You can check out Snapture Labs ‘ full letter to Jailbreak customers at:

The Refund Offer Is for ONE WEEK ONLY “ so act now if you want your free copy of the new app:

This free upgrade will be offered for 1 week only – we plan to have a refund marathon session once we receive everyone’s requests. Again, please be very patient with us as it is an extremely tedious and manual process dealing with Paypal and Google Checkout.

I think a number of ‘crossover ‘ apps (that moved from the jailbreak arena to the App Store) were not able to provide any solutions for past customers.  Very nice to see the publishers of an old jailbreak favorite doing the right thing by their JB users!

  1. YAY!!! I know jailbreakers are rejoicing running through the streets right now!!!! Thank you Patrick for keeping on top of this for everyone.

  2. Hi Frank,

Thanks for letting us know of your excitement. It wasn't a simple decision on our end because the inundated amount of work this will create for us(on top of everything else). But we feel like in the end of the day, this might be our best decision in terms of making you guys Snapture customers for life. And that's important to us.

    Thanks again for your support.

    Best,
    The Snapture Team

    • Thanks very much for this. You did the right thing. The positive press and word of mouth this will cause is more than worth your trouble. I personally will be recommending the app to all my friends.

  3. Ack. Further complication. Just tried to do all this, but since I am waiting for the 3.1 3GS jailbreak, I am still running 3.0. I can't install Snapture on 3.0. I hope you'll extend the time period for this if the jailbreak isn't out within the next week.

This is chocked full of awesome.
They seem to have really embraced the spirit and letter of Google's "Don't Be Evil" motto.
I'm a very happy and new Snapture customer on my non-jailbroken 3GS.

Thanks Snapture Labs!! I purchased the Jailbroken version..and I have already purchased the app store version…and really, when it comes down to it…I am too lazy too bother requesting the refund, so you don't have to worry about processing my paperwork :-)

    Keep up the good work!!

Snapture is no longer supporting Cydia licenses. To get Snapture updates, you’d need to get the Apple version which requires yet another license purchase (although currently marketed as discounted). I think it is a rip off to say the least that they will fail to continue to support their cydia licenses and provided updates that would work on the 3GS. People running on 3.0 won’t be able to buy it anyway because it only works on the 3.1 release. If you have a JB’d iphone, you likely won’t want to upgrade to 3.1 only to pay them for a program you had previously purchased in full. Scumbags.

I think that's a little bit of an unfair way to judge things. Many developers have switched from the JB side to the App Store, and I don't see how you can blame them when the market is astronomically larger than the jailbreak arena. I certainly feel as if any jailbreak app I've ever purchased came with more risks than a stock app, because I know I'm doing something Apple is going to mess with and try to break. I also think it's perfectly understandable that the developers do not want to risk their App Store status by continuing to operate in Cydia, and that they've made a reasonable and genuine effort to work with their JB customers.
