Big Jump In iPhone Users Updating to 3.1 Last Week

There were some significant changes this week with iPhone OS version statistics. Mainly, there was a sharp increase in users upgrading to 3.1; from 18.8% to 31.4%. 3.1.1 nearly saw a doubling of users from 3.7% to 6.0%. All other OS versions lost some of their user-base.

The chart and quote above are from the latest newsletter from Pinch Media, who are among the leading providers of analytics / tracking data on iPhone apps.

I ‘m surprised to see the large numbers of 3.1 (and 3.1.1) users “ a little over 37% of all users in this chart.  I suppose that ‘s because my little corner of the iPhone world is full of folks who like their jailbreak a whole lot.  I tend to sometimes forget that that is far from the norm among the general population of iPhone users.

    That was probably due to the fact that in order to get MMS from AT&T, users had to upgrade to 3.1.
