A while back (like in the infancy of the App Store) I went looking for an application that my wife could use to keep track of shopping lists on her iPod Touch. Sure she could have used the notepad, but after a while that started to get a bit annoying because there was no way to quickly remove an item that you just tossed in the cart. So to the App Store we went.

Now a days there’s hundreds of shopping apps, but back then there were only a few and even less stand-out top tier applications. One I happened by is an app by Mid Century Software called Shopper (iTunes). Without question this app is what I consider to be one of the best reasons for owning an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Sure there’s other list making applications out there, there’s even other shopping applications out there, but Shopper is the first application I honestly felt comfortable with telling my mom about and telling her she had to buy it. After all this time, both my wife and my mom still swear by it and keep it constantly updated.

Yesterday when checking for app updates, I noticed Shopper was updated – this time to 4.0 (at no extra charge). With a full version number update I figured it was worth checking out the update details – and boy am I glad I did! The one feature I’ve been waiting for since the day I bought the app is here … Sync! Not just any sync, but sync between users!

How does it work?

  • Register your Shopper Account
  • Send your list to any person
  • That person will receive an email with a link that connects your list to their account. If they are not a Shopper user (yet), they can still view the list in email form.
  • Any changes you make to that shared list will be automatically synced to the recipient ‘s list, so they always have your up to date needs available.
  • You can turn off syncing at any time with the press of one button on your account page.
  • Anyway – if you’re looking for a great shopping list application, you honestly can’t beat shopper especially after this most recent update! You can pick it up for $0.99 on Shopper or check out the details on their website (hint: click the logo at the top).

I bought Shopper just a few weeks ago and it is a very cool and useful app! It's very easy to use and really helps with my quick grocery shopping lists. Plus, I always have the iPod in my pocket (don't you?) so I can always add something to the list whenever I run out. It's a great app and for $0.99 it's a steal!

    2. Doesn't look like it does – but that's something I would definitely recommend to the devs as I'm sure it's a feature they could implement

It does do this, yes. If two stores both have an aisle called, say, dairy, then any dairy item you add will show on both stores. You can customize which aisles (the way of categorizing) show for each store. If you remove the pharmacy aisle from your local grocery store, say, then any pharmacy items won't appear in the grocery list. Basically, the more you customize it, the better it will work for you.
