blackra1n-1

Blackra1n “ the much-awaited new jailbreak for all iPhone and iPod Touch models on the 3.1 and 3.1.2 firmware “ has been released, very late last night.

Here ‘s a brief rundown on it from its creator, GeoHot:

So, what is blackra1n? blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Even the ipt3, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n. As far as donations go, they are much appreciated, but not until after blackra1n works for you. I never ask for donations before the tool is released.

Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.

Blackra1n is Windows only for now.

I ‘ve just finished doing my prep work “ updating to 3.1.2, updating iTunes on my Windows 7 virtual machine, remembering to backup my Camera Roll (for once) “ and will try out the jailbreak in just a few minutes.

Head over HERE to download blackra1n, and HERE to see GeoHot ‘s latest blog posts about it.

As a relative newbie to the iPhone world (since mid-June), I had trouble reading this and could use some assistance: if I already upgraded to 3.1.2 (oops), will Blackra1n work or not? I read your comment as "yes" and I read geohot's as "no" – or is it "don't hack FIRST and then upgrade."

As Hawklight mentions in the comment below, do NOT do the update to 3.1.2 if you need to unlock. I've never been unlocked and don't need to be, so I did the update to 3.1.2 then ran blackra1n. So far, so good, will do a post soon.

  3. Hawklight says:

Dont upgrade to 3.1.2 if you are wanting to unlock your phone for another carrier. Otherwise updating to 3.1.2 and then using blackra1n is the correct method.
