Dropbox App Updated – Now Compatible with iPhone OS 3.0

Dropbox iPhone app

From the Dropbox Blog:

Big announcement:  the iPhone app is now available for 3.0! Go get it

Other stuff: We initially opted for 3.1 because API methods related to saving videos were not available on 3.0. This meant that videos taken within the app would be permanently lost in the event of a flaky/slow internet connection. This happened to us enough in testing that we felt it wasn ‘t a risk we wanted to expose to our users.

That said, Will, the maestro of our iPhone app, deftly crafted a solution for this problem. The result is what you see in the app store today! Will also says that there will be plenty of bug fixes to come in the future, as well as a huge feature push when 1.5 arrives.

Good stuff. If the lack of 3.0 support was preventing you from getting some Dropbox goodness on your iPhone, this update should be just the ticket for you.  For those who are not familiar with Dropbox has been described by PC Magazine as the ‘simplest, most elegant file-sync tool ever ‘ “ and being a heavy user of it on the desktop, I heartily agree. The iPhone app gives you access to your Dropbox contents on your favorite device.

You can find the app HERE in the App Store, and it ‘s free.

I was super excited to see this update for my 3.0.1 iPhone 3G so downloaded and tried it out right away. Being a big fan of Dropbox it was the app for me. I must honestly say – I expected it to be more. Most of the things I expected to do I couldn't, admittedly I knew they weren't there as they are all big requests from their forums eg. favourite everything/mass selection options – then be able to ignore things – so inverse of how it is now, I didn't like how the favourites were all in 1 list – ie folder structure didn't resemble as it was in my Dropbox.
Not a negative as such, I did tinker under the hood on my JB device to try add files with SCP but that didn't work due to how things are done with the DB/PLIST to keep track of files, darn. I just had to try. LOL
Still …. a great app and one I can see getting better.
