Great Line About Most Likely iPhone 3GS Killer

I love this line from John Gruber at Daring Fireball:
Right. You know who thinks the iPhone 3GS stinks? Steve Jobs. No one is working harder on an ‘iPhone 3GS killer ‘ than Apple.
It ‘s in response to Jim Dalrymple, talking about the next version of the iPhone
The next version of the iPhone is already well underway and it will have cooler features than the existing models. Apple created a platform, not just a piece of hardware that uses the same old software. That ‘s a huge distinction.
Oh, and all this just reminded me of all the various ‘iPhone killers ‘ we ‘ve seen and heard about over the last couple of years. Anybody remember the mighty Samsung Instinct, shown in the pic above? ![]()

I'm a fairly recent iPhone convert. I was on Sprint with a RAZR before. I had been a Sprint customer for over 10 years. I was actually super excited for the Instinct and had all intentions of buying one. Sprint then screwed me on a customer service issue. I vowed to never give Sprint another dime and bought an iPhone. I have never been happier to be screwed over in my life. Not only did the Instinct fail terribly, but I absolutely love the iPhone. AT&T is nothing to praise, but they aren't -that- bad.
Kinda sad. I had a 3G and now a 3GS. I've only had the 3GS for what 4-5 months, I absolutely love it, but I'm still excited for the next iPhone. Maybe I'm turning into a fanboy. Problem is, for the next one I'll probably we waiting to upgrade until I know a jailbreak will be possible. The iPhone is amazing, but it's not able to do what I want it to do without being jailbroken. If I can't run Backgrounder, SBSettings, iRealQuickSMS, and Lockscreen Info, I would rather start looking into Android devices.
LOL – love the 'never been happier to be screwed over' line. Great story.
I’m still wondering why apple doesn’t implement sbsettings. It consumes no ram and works perfectly.
And Jailbreak will always be possible. Noone can write unhackable code.
I know what you mean, I personally am getting tired of everyone claiming to have an iphone killer. How many people make claims like that and never succeed? Lately they are all in one ear and out the other. While I enjoy reading about the competition if you can even call it that, I dont see anyone topping the iphone anytime soon.
I read an article in the newspaper about the palm pre being an iphone threat when the pre was first released. I have since played with a few and boy they arent even close to an iphone. I see these claims as an iphone killer more as marketing and advertisement strategies. Everyone stop claiming to have a better product than the iphone, let your product do the talking!!!
