iPhone App Update: Beejive 3.1, now with multi-user and meta chats!

Posted on 01 Nov 2009 by Thomas

This update needs some concious friends to test with (it’s past midnight here), but the announcement can be made right about…now. Beejive 3.1 is out and with it come multi-user chats and meta chats. The first feature is pretty obvious, but meta chats could be interesting. If you hold conversations with a contact over several different messaging services you’ll now be able to merge all of those chats into one mega meta stream (giant robot transformation sequence sold separately). This sounds a little like Synergy on the Palm Pre, and I’ll definitely be posting some impressions when I get the chance.

How about instead of adding new features they actually make push notifications work? Since that is what i actually paid $10 for…

    • Thomas says:

I had problems when beejive first came out but now i receive all the push notifications just fine as far as I can tell.

    • Push notifications have always worked great for me in Beejive. Are you hacktivated?

      • Guest says:

Obviously he’s not “Hacktivated” because he just said he spent 10 dollars.

        • Josh Gard says:

Just because someone hacktivates doesn't mean they also steal apps – he could still have purchased it from the app store.

        • Hacktivation has absolutely nothing to do with using pirated software. Not even remotely close. Thank you for your very insightful reply, though. In case you are interested in actually understanding what you're talking about:

Jailbreak = The process of opening the iPhone OS to allow running unsigned code and opening the filesystem for full access. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of uses for this other than pirating software.

Unlock = The process of unlocking the carrier which your phone is tied to. This allows, for instance, the use of the iPhone on T-Mobile in the US. This is one of the things that's possible once your phone is jailbroken and again, has absolutely nothing to do with pirated software.

Hacktivation = The process of activating a recently restored phone in an unofficial manner (i.e. not through iTunes). This is necessary if you want to use your phone on an unofficial carrier and you don't have access to a SIM for the official carrier. This is known to cause push notifications to not work properly and doesn't have the slightest bit to do with using pirated software.

Although there are an incredibly large number of people, like you, who are grossly misinformed and think every single person that jailbreaks their phone uses pirated software, that is not the case. I guarantee Patrick, Thomas, and the other bloggers on this site pay for every app they use. I personally have never once used a pirated app on my phone but have been jailbroken for years. In fact, I have paid for a large number of apps that can only be used on a jailbroken device. I urge you to look more closely into things before acting like you know what you're talking about.

  2. Josh Gard says:

I use Beejive quite a bit and have never had a problem with push notifications. they come through within seconds of the person sending the IM. I'm actually very impressed with Beejive, and always have been. IMO, the best iphone chat app by far!
