You could use Orbit for iPhone Exposé, or you could try OverBoard instead

Overboard

I’m not sure how long this app will stay up (Cydia rules are different than App Store rules, I’m sure) but there’s a new $1.99 app for sale on Cydia called OverBoard, and it’s an admitted copycat of Orbit — but with a few more features right out of the box. You’re still getting your money’s worth in terms of iPhone Exposé to see all of your home screens at once, but you’ve also got some other goodies. Overboard features alternative activation methods (pinch or home button), winterboard compatibility, and more screens to call home (err, extra home screens) — none of which are present in Orbit 1.0.

Steven Troughton-Smith says he already knows about OverBoard and seems to cite it as one of the reasons he has delayed Orbit 1.1, which is supposed to bring pinch and homescreen support to the app (if not more).

The two solutions are obviously very similar, but it’s not as though Steven thought the idea for Orbit up himself — even Orbit is actually based on the concept video made by Ocean Observations. I haven’t had experience with Orbit or Overboard so I can’t say what the performance differences are (if any), but it’s interesting that Cydia users now have similarly priced choices for iPhone Exposé goodness.

I just removed Orbit and installed Overboard. Works great. Seems slicker than Orbit and the screen pinch to launch is a nice feature.

It wasn't until I uninstalled Orbit that I realised how useful (read vital) an 'Expose' type app is. Flicking screens now seems so antiquated, whereas at one time it was really innovative.

I have both installed and OverBoard is much better. It's lightning fast, and has pinch and home button support. When I open Orbit, some of the thumbnails aren't themed (doesn't take icons from my WinterBoard theme) and takes a few seconds to generate the pages. But OverBoard uses my theme's icons and loads instantly.

Good to hear, guys! Thanks for the feedback…you're kind tempting me to get it now, but I'm sticking to one home screen for as long as I can.

  6. I just bought Overboard & WOW!!! I am in love with this app. I bought & downloaded PogoPlank which I enjoyed to use but I found myself hunting through folders sometimes looking for a certain app. I also felt like using PogoPlank was more work especially when you downloaded a new app & then you want to add it to a folder. Overboard is smooth, I already pretty much have all my apps organized by screen so this works for me. I love one click on the homebutton springs Overboard to life at an amazing speed. I love the built in spotlight search too. Well jailbreaking is GREAT and this UI impresses some friends with the cool look.

…thanks a freaking lot. Now I'm the owner of Overboard AND Orbit and I'm out 5.50 with Paypal fees :P YOu just had to point out what a great time you were having with Overboard…:P
