Dragon Dictation for iPhone Updated, Addresses Contacts "Issue”

Posted on 16 Dec 2009 by Joe Tomasone

imageNuance has released an update to the well-received but wrongly controversial Dragon Dictation iPhone App.

Despite glowing praise for its usefulness and accuracy, a number of potential users were concerned with the fact that the names of all of your contacts are uploaded to Nuance.  Nuance stated that this is done merely to enhance recognition of those names, should you ever dictate them;    unfortunately, there were some forum posts that blew this way out of proportion (as if all the contact data was being uploaded as well — and perhaps misused — which Nuance stated was not the case).

This new version allows you to opt-out of the contact name sharing, and to delete the contact names that current users have already sent from Nuance ‘s servers.

As I ‘ve commented on the site already, I think this is much ado about nothing much, but for those who already have the NSA wiretapping their brain, this is yet another step towards retaking their privacy assuaging their paranoia.
