22-Inch Touchscreen iMac Coming Later This Year?

overview_hero4_20091020.pngDigitimes has linked to a curious report from China Times(Google Translation) that claims Apple is gearing up to launch a 22-inch touchscreen iMac in the bottom half of 2010.

The report goes on to mention the recent increase in “all-in-one” computer form factor popularity. In fact analyst expect all-in-one unit sales to double in 2010, with companies like Dell offering more in that market. With the increased crowding in this market segment, or as the logic goes, Apple will include touchscreen capabilities to help them keep their edge over competitors.

The report also briefly notes that Apple’s much-rumored tablet will have a 9.7-inch screen.

If, and that’s a big “if”, Apple were to include touchscreen capabilities in new iMacs, it would most certainly not be the only form of input for that machine. I confident in this for two reasons. If the market, or more generally, users were comfortable with touchscreen desktops the technology would be included in most modern computers, and not just a handful. Another way I can tell, is by a simple test. Try taping the top and then the bottom of your computer screen back-and-forth for 30 seconds continuously. Tiring right? That’s what I thought.
