iPhone OS 4 screencap

The Boy Genius Report site has a post up today with some details on iPhone OS 4.0, gathered from their ‘trusty Apple connects ‘.  Here ‘s what they ‘ve been told:

There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
‘A few new ways ‘ to run applications in the background ” multitasking.
Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven ‘t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will ‘put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers ‘ more than any other phone to date. Everyone is ‘really excited. ‘
The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

My quick reaction: there needs to be and will be much more to OS 4.0 than just this; multitasking = huge hurrah to that; improved notifications and better ways to navigate through the OS and some new take on the home screen “ yes please, lots of that.

What ‘s on your iPhone 4.0 wish list?

    My wishlist:

There are the obvious big ones:
    1) Multitasking (plus a nice GUI for it)
    2) New system-wide notification system (Pre- or Android style)
    3) New Springboard GUI (or at least enhancements like folders etc.)

    And under the hood:
    4) centralized "folder" with access from all apps
    5) multi-resolution support

    Software Updates:
    6) better Exchange support
    7) Google Maps update (navigation, latitude etc.) 8) better voice control
    9) more bluetooth profiles
    10) plus some smaller tweaks and updates here and there

    New integrated software:
    11) Lockscreen infos/gadgets

Plus things that are dependent on new hardware, of course.

  3. I'm still on the old original iphone, guess its time to upgrade that too.

Looks like bad news for original iPhone owner, but at least your contract should be up in the summer at the latest. Unless you have one of those 3-year Canadian contracts…
