Review update: Vaja ivolution GT [iPhone Case Reviews]

Posted on 26 Jan 2010 by Thomas

My simple black and white Vaja ivolution GT case (review here) has seen a fair amount of use over the past few months. I tend to switch cases every now and then just to change the appearance and texture of my iPhone, and the Vaja always makes the device feel like an absolutely premium slice of mobile tech.

The leather smell is no longer as pungent, and I like it a lot more now. The leather has held up quite well, although there are marks and indentations along the back, as well as a few scratch marks along the racing stripe. As for the interior: there’s a minor tear along the bottom lining, but this is only evident when the case is empty – otherwise it’s impossible to notice. The case’s fit is still the same as day one, and the plastic latch that holds the flip against the iPhone’s screen still snaps satisfyingly into place. It’s also worth noting that the rows upon rows of embossed Vaja logos still look like they did on day one. I usually find this looka bit tacky, but I rather like it on the Vaja.

All in all, I’d say this Vaja has held up very well, and I now think of this case as my iPhone’s racing stripes tuxedo. I also can’t help but think of Neil Patrick Harris saying “Suit up!” every time I put the thing on.

This is good to hear… considering I've started hearing reports that the quality of the Vaja cases has slipped over the last year or so.

I've got an ivolution SP flapless on order… grey with red stripe. Should be sick…

Hey Thomas, I was wondering how you cleaned the white stripes because mine are getting a tad bit dirty and it's starting to show.

Thanks for the info. I've searched online and most use stuff like car cleaners or Zymol (?!?!) so I wanted to hear firsthand from someone who had a similar case to mine. I tried using a damp cloth yesterday and swiping it across the stripes gently but that didn't really seem to help much. I'm gonna try again later though.

Also, sorry if this is a little off-topic but on your white iPhone, have you noticed any signs of crack whatsoever? I have a few on the top, right below the sim card slot. it's not obvious or anything but if you look clearly, you'll see it.

Btw, just so anyone knows, this is a really awesome case to get. Not only is it durable but it looks pretty on the outside as well. Only thing is you have to be careful with it because it is quite sensitive to damage from my observations so far. But overall, a really good case. And workmanship is top notch. You really do get what you pay for. ;)
