Crazy Big iPhone Numbers: 70% of Fortune 200 Companies Deploying iPhones to Employees

Posted on 27 Jan 2010 by PatrickJ

Some notable numbers relating to iPhone that TechCrunch gathered during Apple ‘s 2010 first quarter financial results call:

8.7 million iPhones “ 100% growth versus year ago.
Added 17 new carriers throughout the world in the quarter.
86 countries for iPhone distribution
Japan, UK, Australia, France, Germany growth is strong.
70% of Fortune 200 companies deploying iPhones to employees

For me, the one that leaps off the page is the deployment of iPhones in Fortune 200 companies.  70% is a huge number.  Especially for a platform that ‘s supposed to have no ‘enterprise ‘ appeal.

I think that's not exactly how we should understand it. I think it means that 70% of Fortune 200 are trying out the iPhone. It's not like they're taking blackberries off their employees to give them iPhones. Does that make sense?

That's exact;y how I read it as well. Deploying means testing / rolling out for possible adoption somewhere within a company. I never said anything about replacing Blackberries or other devices. The 70% is still very impressive though, again for a device / platform that is thought to have no enterprise pull.
