OT: My 15 Minutes (almost)
A shade under 1 minute is just about 15 minutes right? If so, I have had my 15 minutes of fame this week.
A couple days ago I was contacted out of the blue by a very kind producer at ABC World News, and asked to be one of a small group of ‘experts ‘ who would comment on the eve of Apple ‘s big iPad launch event “ talking about expectations about whatever mythical device Steve was going to unveil and the like. We also were asked to provide some quick reactions after the event was over and we ‘d seen what was announced.
I was “ very pleasantly “ surprised to be asked to take part in this kind of thing “ but also very happy to give it a go.
Honestly, I thought there would be some sort of vetting process, that somebody would suss out that I didn ‘t belong, or just figure I was a bit too much of a dork. I told my wife I did not expect to be included when the actual news actually aired.
Well, somehow I slipped through the vetting process “ we set our DVR and sure enough yesterday morning my daughter had lots of fun telling me:
Dad “ you ‘re on TV. For real!
This morning I was on again, and this time I did a little less rambling, but my name and the site name were shown quite nicely. Hurrah “ not only my 15 minutes, but the site ‘s as well.

I'll definitely be getting an iPad. I think the backlash is just coming from the hardcore geeks. I think they were expecting something way over the top with all the bells and whistles. I think Apple did it right, start with one that has 80% of the features of their other products, but does it cheaply and performs well. It looks like they accomplished that.

Congrats on the TV interview. I was once pulled over by a FOX NY team an commented on the Mets when they were in the NLCS back in '06 which aired on TV.
