Apple Releases 27-Inch iMac Firmware Update to Address Display Problems, Temporarily Halting Production?

overview_hero4_20091020.pngApple has released a firmware update to address ongoing problems causing intermittent display flickering affecting some 27-inch iMac models.

Updates the display firmware on 27-inch iMac systems to address issues that may cause intermittent display flickering.

The 27-inch iMac Display Update will update the display firmware on your iMac. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your iMac during this update.

This update is 294KB in size and can be downloaded here, and instructions for installing the update can be found here.

This should sound familiar. Apple released a firmware update in December that doesn’t seem to have done to much in the way of helping the display problems.

As for production of these machines, Hardmac is reporting that Apple has halted production of all 27-inch iMac models while they sort out their affairs.

According to one of our sources, the company completely stopped the iMac 27″ assembling lines, the production will not resume before Apple has finally found a reliable and definitive fix for the remaining past (flickering and flashing display) and new issues (yellowish panel and flickering display) affecting those models.

I don’t know if Apple will ever get these problems ironed out.
